Malaysian universities’ alumni outreach programme goes to Cambodia


PHNOM PENH, 20 June (UPM) – The Alumni Center of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), which is the secretariat of the MyAlumni for universities in Malaysia, has implemented  its internationalization programme in the Cambodian capital city on 20th to 21stJune,2013.

Dubbed the “Malaysia Global Outreach Programme” (MGO) in Cambodia, it  was held at Hotel Sunway under the Malaysia Ministry of Education’s National Higher Education Strategic Plan Phase 2 (2011 – 2015). 

According to the Director of UPM Alumni Centre who is also the Head of MyAlumni Cluster, Assoc Prof  Dr. Mansor Abu Talib, the programme is aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Malaysian institutions of higher learning and their alumni  whereby these former students could contribute in the effort to promote the Malaysian highereducationinstitutions.

Of the three programmes held, one was the formation of the Malaysia Alumni Council of Cambodia(MACC).



The second programme  was a roundtable discussion with the Malaysia Embassy of Cambodia,  the Malaysia Business Council of Cambodia, MyAlumni Consortium and  the Malaysia Alumni of Cambodia.

This roundtable was a platform to discuss alumni activities and programmes which can be organized by MACC with the help of the Malaysian Embassy in Cambodia and the Malaysia Business Council of Cambodia. 

The programme ended with the Malaysian Alumni of Cambodia Gala Dinner.  Where Datin. Dr. Ir. Siti Hamisah Tapsir, Deputy Director-General of IPTA,  launched the   MyAlumni Consortium (MyAC),  the Malaysia Alumni Council of Cambodia (MyAAC) and the Cambodia Laos Myanmar and Vietnam Alumni Coffee Table Book (CLMV CTB).



More than 40 alumni attended to make the events together with  Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Fauzi Hj. Ramlan, Vice Chancellor of UPM; Prof. Dato' Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Brig. Jen Dato' Prof. Dr. Kamarudin Hussin, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). 

Among the alumni present were those from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), and Taylor's University. – UPM
