Five UPM lecturers receive recognition from Academy of Science Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA, 2 Nov –Two lecturers who are also researchers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) were conferred as Fellows of Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM) 2017, while three lecturers were chosen as Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) 2017. 

The two lecturers who were conferred as fellows are Professor Dato’ Ir Dr. Mohd Saleh Jaafar FASc from Faculty of Engineering and Professor Dr. Mohd Hair Bejo FASc from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

                                            

The three lecturers who were chosen as the Top Research Scientists Malaysia are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cheah Yoke Kqueen from Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohd Rafii Yusop from Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Yunus Abd Shukor from Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences.

They received the awards at the ceremony entitled ‘2017 Conferment of Fellowship of ASM & Announcement of Top Research Scientists Malaysia here.

Professor Dato’ Ir Dr. Mohd Saleh’s areas of expertise are in civil engineering, structures and concrete materials and structures, while Professor Dr. Mohd Hair’s areas of expertise are in veterinary pathology, animal vaccines, entrepreneurship, avian pathology and animal biotechnology.

In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cheah’s areas of expertise are in molecular diagnostics and drug discovery, while Dr. Mohd Rafii’s area of expertise is in plant biotechnology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Yunus’s area of expertise is in biochemistry. 

ASM was set up by the government in 1995 with the main objective to pursuit the encouragement and enhancement of excellence in the fields of Science, Engineering and Technology for the development of the nation and the benefit of mankind. - UPM
