Make success a platform to contribute to society

SERDANG, Jan 10: Graduates should make the success they have achieved today a platform to contribute more significantly to society, said Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Pro-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Dato' Dr. Ir. Muhamad Zohadie Bardaie.

Hence, he said, the graduates should continuously improve their knowledge and skills to contribute to shaping society and enhancing human civilisation to be of quality, integrity, and synergy with the environment.

He said graduates should be a good example to students who are still in their academic endeavours.

“Show the society that UPM graduates are not only good in academics but also great in the aspect of personality.”

"As a graduate, academic excellence does not reflect one's success and greatness… a holistic development and excellence also need to be given attention," he said that when addressing at Session 3 of the 44th UPM Convocation Ceremony at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts and Cultural Centre, UPM here, today.

He presented the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master’s, Bachelor’s degrees, and Diplomas to 951 graduates at Session 3 of the Convocation Ceremony.

Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr. Ir. Muhamad Zohadie also said the higher education sector provides knowledgeable and highly skilled people for the requirements of national development; thus, the Higher Education Institutions, especially UPM, must be at the top.

While congratulating the university management and the UPM community on the success of UPM in being ranked 143rd best university in the world (QS World University Ranking 2022) and the most sustainable university in the country as the 27th best in the world (UI-Greenmetric World University Ranking 2021), he said, these are among the manifestations of quality and excellence demonstrated by the UPM community.

He said such success should be maintained continuously.

He also said that as UPM alumni, graduates should always support the efforts to strengthen the relationship with the alma mater, UPM, to further enhance the university's excellence at the international level.

He added that the graduates will be UPM ambassadors for the whole world and will be responsible for maintaining the university's good name by contributing to the religion, race, and country wherever they are. - UPM
