Graduates urged to strenghthen ties with leaders - Tan Sri Rozali

SERDANG - Graduates of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) are urged to strengthen ties with leaders in shaping excellent future generation for the country.

UPM Pro Chancellor, Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said such an interaction between young generation and leaders will lead to mental, physical, emotional, personality stability and nurtures positive social relationship.

"Mental health allows graduates to possess positive and proactive attitude in interacting with others and the Prime Minister’s emphasis in engaging the youth in decision-making process enables the country to move towards excellence," he said.

His speech is delivered during the fifth session of the 37th UPM Convocation Ceremony at the Great Hall, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts and Culture Centre, Universiti Putra Malaysia here.

On the other hand, Tan Sri Rozali reminds that UPM graduates have taken the best possible opportunity with the increase in number of international students to interact and share positive values ​​with them.

"In 2011, international student enrollments successfully reached nearly 4,000 students from 70 countries, consisting of 3% for the Bachelor programmes, 45% for the Master programmes and 52% at the PhD level," he said.

As a matter of fact, UPM also offers a Joint PhD Programme with University of Sheffield, UK, Dual PhD Programme with University of Nottingham, UK, University of Newcastle and University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Dual Master’s Degree Programme with Ajou University, South Korea and University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK.

"The latest is the establishment of Malaysia Super Satellite Campus (MSSC) and Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) in UPM. The establishment of MSSC in UPM makes it the first Japanese public university international off-shore campus and offers dual degree programmes at postgraduate levels," he said.

A total of 7,149 graduates will receive their degree and diploma scrolls respectively at the 37th UPM Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) from 26 October to 29 October. Of the total number of recipients, 440 will receive their PhDs, 2,197 their Masters, while 4,158 will receive their Bachelors and 354 their Diplomas.
