SERDANG, Dec 18 – Given the current digital divide across the globe, a new shift in education approaches is needed to enhance the learning ecosystem.
BitS aims to help educational institutions to bridge this digital divide and provides better access to education through establishing smart classrooms.
BitS also aims to support teachers and educational institutions to crowd-fund from donors and generate projects to inform the communities about their need for smart classrooms.
It also provides project-based income opportunities for freelancers, including young technologists, and value technology development for its research and development, including e-content, web-based learning materials, storage, networking, technology configuration, multimedia, and training.
In line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, BitS won the Islamic Development Bank Transformers Academy funding of RM1.08 million which aims to support entrepreneurs, innovators and global leaders in their effort in helping community to achieve the SDGs.
Developed by a start-up company, EduBITS Sdn. Bhd, BitS was founded through Innohub at Putra Science Park (PSP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2016 by a group of lecturers, namely, Assoc Prof. Dr. Habibah Ab Jalil, Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail from Faculty of Educational Studies; Dr. Erzam Marlisah from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology; and Ts. Dr. Mohd Zairul Mohd Noor from Faculty of Design and Architecture in UPM. - UPM
