SERDANG, Jan 9 - “Refine your intentions, strive for the very best in your studies, regardless of bachelor, master, or PhD level. All the incoming challenges are meant to hone one's potential to be better.”

These were the words of encouragement from Dr. Khairun Nisa’ Khiruddin, 32, who received a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Human Resource Development, at the 44th Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Convocation Ceremony here, today.

Hailing from Perak, she completed her PhD studies in six semesters, at the age of 29.

She is now a lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UMP). She said the journey to obtain a PhD is not easy as it must be accompanied by passion and determination.

Dr. Khairun Nisa’, a graduate from the Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP), UPM, said the blessings from parents are an important element in studies because parents’ blessings will lead to the blessing of Allah S.W.T.

"It is satisfying for someone to be called a student when they can understand the knowledge provided, and this starts with the blessings from parents," she added.

She also adhered to the UPM motto - "With Knowledge We Serve" - which meant those who had gained knowledge themselves would contribute to the community with beneficial knowledge.

Dr. Khairun Nisa’ received her scholarships from the Skim Latihan Akademik Bumiputera (SLAB) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). She said that apart from her parents, the support from her mentors and lecturers was also an impetus for her to continue her studies at the PhD level.

"I am fortunate to have met lecturers who, for me, have exceptional thinking during my time in UPM," she said. - UPM
