SERDANG, September 1st – A total of 4,258 students registered for various Bachelor programmes at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for its 2012/2013 academic session on the 1st and 2nd September recently.
According to Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, among them were 2,958 females and 1,300 males.
“In addition there were 61 international students from various countries including China, USA, Iraq, Brunei, Kenya, Iran, Somalia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Palestine, India, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan and Jordan who also registered for the bachelor programme,” he said at a press conference held here in conjunction with new students registration for the first semester of 2012/2013 session.
Also joining the registration were 36 national athletes from the National Sports Council, including members from the archery elite squad, hockey, shooting and players from Harimau Muda, women SEA Games hockey player, Nor Hidayah Ahmad Bokhari, archery starlet, Arif Farhan Ibrahim Putra and two athletes from the field of shooting namely Noor IzzatiJasnidanShahira Abdul Halim. The breakdown of registrations by faculty Is as follows: the Faculty of Agriculture (304), Forestry (166), Veterinary and Medicines (99), Economics and Management (364), Engineering (532), Educational Studies (297), Science (459), Food Science and Technology (164), Human Ecology (258), Modern Languages and Communication (444), Medicine and Health Science (402), Design and Architecture (141), Computer Science and Information technology (227), Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science (181), Environmental Studies (127), and Agriculture and Food Science, which is housed at the Bintulu campus in Sarawak, with 93 registered students.
