38 students receive Hari Raya aid from UPM Chancellor

Serdang, July 11 - The Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had given Hari Raya aid to orphans and other beneficiaries consisting of 38 UPM students here.

His majesty presented the financial contributions at the special breaking of fast ceremony or Iftar and Tarawih prayer with some 1,000 people comprising UPM staff and members of the local community at the UPM Mosque.

Also held at the event was the presentation of the financial contributions to Wakaf Ilmu UPM, the money being contributions from individuals, UPM corporate partners and university staff.



Contributions received from Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim, RM1 million; UPM Registrar's Office, Dato' Wan Azman Wan Omar, RM127,713.00; UPM Bursar, Zulkiflee Othman, RM168,568.81; Islamic Centre funds, Wan Ismail Wan Mohd Radzi, RM196,277.92; UPM Cooperative, Dr. Dasrilsyah Syahrial, RM15,000; contributions from the late Allahyarham Dato' Dr. Radin Umar Radin Sohadi, presented by Radin Munzir Radin Umar, RM190,077.42 and MAA Endowments Takaful Berhad, Mohd Fauzi Mahmud, RM10,000.

Meanwhile, UPM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. Board of Directors chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali also handed over RM219,800 from UPM Holdings business zakat (tithe) for the year 2013.

Wakaf Ilmu is a fund for UPM staff, alumni and local community to contribute, in accordance with the concept of waqf (endowment), to support the financing of academic and research activities as well as advancement of knowledge in UPM.
