20 UPM staff receive Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Award from the Sultan of Selangor

SERDANG, 14 May - Prof. Dr. Mohd Ali Hassan from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences was selected as the recipient of the Akademia Putra Special Award during Majlis Gemilang Akademia Putra (MGAP) 2017, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Prof. Dr. Mohd Ali, 60, who has worked in UPM since 1982, was selected due to his active involvement in research which focused on environmental biotechnology and biomass as well as for his exceptional leadership and management skills. He received the Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Award for the Akademia Putra Special Award category from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who is also the Chancellor of UPM.    

“I am grateful to receive this award. It is a life time career achievement,” said Prof Dr. Mohd Ali when interviewed after the event.

 

A total of 20 UPM staff who have portrayed excellent performance, potential and contribution received the Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Award from the Sultan of Selangor at the ceremony. MGAP reflects the university's appreciation and recognition of its staff for their efforts in the exploration and development of knowledge and education services in uplifting the culture of knowledge.  Dr. Hayrol Azril Mohamed Shaffril from the Institute of Social Science Studies won two awards: The Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Research and Innovation Award (Young Researcher Category) and The Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Research and Innovation Award (Journal Article Publication Category).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zalina Shari from the Faculty of Design and Architecture received the Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Award for teaching (Excellent Educator Category) while five more staff received the Young Educator Award. They were Dr. Wan Norhamidah Wan Ibrahim from the Faculty of Science, Dr. Farina Mustaffa Kamal from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Radhiah Shukri from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, and Dr. Rozita Radhiah Said and Dr. Aini Marina Ma'rof, both from the Faculty of Educational Studies.

Prof. Dr. Nor Azah Yusof from the Faculty of Science received the Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Award for Research and Innovation (Excellent Researcher Category), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusran Sulaiman from the Faculty of Science received an award for the Young Researcher Category. Also awarded were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun from the Faculty of Agriculture (Journal Article Publication Category), Prof. Dr. Abdul Shukor Juraimi from the Faculty of Agriculture (Innovation and Commercialisation Category), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nangkula Utaberta from the Faculty of Design and Architecture (Book Publication Category) and Dr. Saiful Hasley Ramli from the Faculty of Design and Architecture (Art and Creativity Category).

Prof. Dr. Tengku Aizan Tengku Abdul Hamid from the Faculty of Human Ecology and the Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing received the Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Award for Professional Services (Management and Professional Category - Academic), Dr. Razali Othman from the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment, WAZAN received the award for the Management and Professional Category – Non Academic, and Lt. Kol. Bersekutu (PA) Mohd Razali Singah from the Bursar Office won the award for the Support Group Category.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shamsul Bahri Mohd Tamrin from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences won the first place of the Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Award for Excellent Consultanty. The second and third places were awarded to Prof. Dr. Loh Teck Chwen from the Faculty of Agriculture and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifah Norazizan Syed Abd Rashid from the Faculty of Human Ecology, respectively.


In her speech during the ceremony, UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris, expressed her appreciation and congratulated the recipients of the awards with the hope that they would be an inspiration for other UPM staff to continue their excellence.  – UPM
