TANJUNG MALIM, August 13 – The Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) Karate Kumite squad won two gold medals at the 2022 Institutions of Higher Learning Games (SUKIPT) in their respective events at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), today.

A second-semester student of Bachelor of Communication, Siti Nur Azwani Nor Azli, attained easy victory after defeating her opponent, M. Vaisani, from Politeknik, 8-0, in the female under 61 kilograms (kg) category.

"I feel very happy and proud of this achievement, and I am also satisfied with my performance in the match,” she said.

Meanwhile, a fourth-semester student of Bachelor of Communication, A. Denishroy, who won gold in the men’s 84kg and above category, expressed his joy after defeating his opponent from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

He was also a gold medallist at the ASEAN University Games (AUG) in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand.

"At first, I was a little nervous because this is a national-level competition, and I’m sure my opponent knew my game pattern.

"However, after receiving support and cheer from UPM supporters, I regained motivation and enthusiasm to defeat the opponent by 8-0," he said.

Meanwhile, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration, S. Daneshkumar, also expressed satisfaction after winning the silver medal in the men’s under 75kg category.

"Even though I didn’t win gold, I am extremely satisfied because my opponent is a Malaysian athlete, and I lost to him by the skin of my teeth, 2-1 only,” he said.

The fourth-semester student said he worked hard so that his opponent from Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) could not score many points. -UPM
