Deputy Urban Welfare, Housing and Local Government Minister,
Datuk Halimah Mohamad Sadique said the programme to be held for the first time,
will benefit not only school kids but also parents and the schools involved.
“This campaign is the first of its kind in this country to
be launched using a detailed module on the said topic. This trial project will
start in April until July 2017, involving some 6,000 primary school children,”
she said.
UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris,
meanwhile, said through such a programme, UPM will be able to introduce its
experts who were ever willing to expand their research at national and
international levels.
“As a renowned research university, all academicians are encouraged to be actively involved in research and spread their research outcomes for the benefit of the society and the industries,” she added.
At the event, Datuk Halimah also launched the latest
research report on “How Safe is Your Home? Protecting Children from Fire, Burns
and Scalds in Kuala Lumpur”.
Also present were President of Honeywell ASEAN, Mr. Briand
Greer and Director of Honeywell Hometown Solutions, Kerry Kennedy.
Executive Director of Safe Kids Malaysia UPM, Assoc. Prof.
Dr. Kulanthayan KC Mani said the programme, held with the cooperation of Safe
Kids Worldwide USA and Honeywell, hopefully, could be expanded to other schools
in other districts in the future.
“Through the outcome of this trial programme, I really hope that school children from other districts in Kuala Lumpur as well as in other States will be given the opportunity to participate in such programme,” she said - UPM.
