NUREMBERG, Nov 2nd – Two gold medals and a bronze were brought home by three winning researchers from UPM at the International Exhibition of Ideas- Inventions-New Products (iENA) 2008 recently.
Deputy Dean (Graduate and Research) Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Dr. Norman Mariun won a gold medal with his research product entitled Ohmic Heated Pasteurizer.
“This product is designed and invented to pasteurize liquid food ingredients without heat exchanger and boiler,” he said.
He also stressed that the invention of the product required minimal cost, easy to manoeuvre and on top of that it fabricates quality production apart from saving energy consumption.
Another proud winner of the gold medal was Prof. Dr. Suhaila Mohamed with her research product namely CardioMate-Functional Food Seasoning for Cardiovascular Health.
“The outcome of this product has effectively aided the recovering of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis (the ruin of blood vessels), obesity, kidney related diseases as well as combating different types of cancer in the animal studies,” she added.
Dr. Suhaila also stated that the invention could also protect the internal organs and reducing the oxidative pressure besides decreasing death rate in the animals.
The bronze medal went to Dr. Alyani Ismail with the product Compact 'Butterfly-shaped' Ultra-Wide Band Microwave Filter.
The Head of Delegations, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ratnasamy Muniandy said that an estimation of 50 percent of Malaysian products have proudly won the gold medal.
Seven institutes of higher learning (IPTA) including one research institute took part in this year’s exhibition which was held from 30th October until 2nd November at the Nurembergh Exhibition Centre, Germany.
